Buying a single ticket for public transport in Barcelona is not a good idea. It costs 2.40 euros (price for September 2023). Locals and tourists most often choose the T-casual - a ticket for 1 zone for 10 journeys.
WHAT IS IT?
The T - Casucal is a popular pass that includes 10 journeys on urban and suburban transport: metro, bus, tram (TMB) and FGC, Renfe and Rodalies trains. To get around Barcelona and the surrounding suburbs, you need a T-Casual ticket for the first zone for 11.35€.
WHAT'S HE GOOD FOR?
1. You travel with a 50% discount. A trip will cost you €1.14.
2. In the case of single-zone cards, passengers have 75 minutes between the first and last validation when changing lines or means of transport. This time is increased by 15 minutes for each zone. Not valid for Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 stations on the L9 Sud line.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- You cannot buy a T-Casual ticket on the bus. You can buy them in the metro and at tram stops.
- The fine for fare evasion is 100 euros, 50 euros if you pay on the spot.
- You can buy a T-Casual ticket online via the TMB app or the web. Once you have paid, you will receive a code to enter at the machine when you enter the metro. This will print you a ticket.
- The T-Casual ticket is paper. If it's damaged or torn but you still need to travel, ask a member of staff at the station to help you reprint it. This service is free.
- The T-Casual ticket is valid for transfers for one hour and fifteen minutes from the time it is first validated. This means that you can change trains, trams and TMB buses as many times as you like from point A to point B for free. Each time you change transport during this period, you must punch your ticket. The machines will record your movements, but will not charge you for another journey. This will help you avoid problems with ticket inspectors.
- The Barcelona area is divided into 6 transport zones. You can buy a T-Casual ticket to travel in all zones: the price depends on the zone. You can find a map of the zones here. For example, the first zone includes not only the territory of Barcelona, but also the neighbouring satellite towns: Castelldefels, Sant Cugat and others. Important: At stations outside Barcelona, you must insert your ticket in the terminal both for entry and exit. You must have your ticket with you at all times.
HOW TO BUY T-Casual
Touch the terminal and select the language
Select option T-CASUAL (T10 old version of the name) - ticket price for the first zone 11.35€
You can pay by cash or card - the machine has slots for coins, notes and bank cards. (Please note: not all machines will allow you to buy a ticket using the electronic card in your phone). Increase the number of tickets on the screen if necessary.
Take your card out. If you paid in cash, wait for the change (do not use large notes, the machines only give change in coins).
! We advise you to use buses. They are always air-conditioned, whereas the subway is often stuffy and air-conditioning only works on new trains. The bus route is often "straight", while the metro takes a circuitous route. The bus is often faster.
