Where to See Flamenco in Barcelona: El Tablao de Carmen

We are constantly asked where to go to see flamenco in Barcelona. If you like to plan your trip rationally, we recommend the Tablao de Carmen club. It is located in the Spanish Village on the Montjuïc hill. As well as dancing the night away, you will be immersed in the atmosphere of Spain. During the day you can enjoy a cultural programme (the National Museum of Catalan Art and the Joan Miró Foundation are located on the Montjuïc), then take a lazy stroll in the shade of one of the many parks, have a siesta and in the evening head to a bar for tapas, wine and flamenco!

Another advantage of watching flamenco at the Tablao de Carmen is that if you buy a ticket for the show, you can visit the Spanish Village for free (and save €6 per person). The village is very colourful and introduces visitors to the architecture, art and traditions of Spain. The creators of this project travelled to 1,600 villages across the country to capture the essence of traditional architecture and bring it all to life in the vast expanses of Montjuïc.

THE STORY OF EL TABLAO DE CARMEN

Tablao de Carmen is a place with a history, although very popular with tourists. It was founded in 1988 in honour of the inimitable flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya. The Spanish favourite artiste made a huge contribution to the history of the dance and became famous all over the world. Admirers of her sensual dances were Charlie Chaplin, Fred Astaire, Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Orson Welles, Marlon Brando and US President Franklin Roosevelt.

The show is truly impressive, especially if you've never seen flamenco before. The close proximity to the stage completely immerses the audience in the atmosphere and allows you to see the storm of emotions on the dancer's face, all his dancing wrinkles, drops of sweat and a shiver of tension from the top of his head to the tips of his fingers.
