Barcelona in 3 Days: A Route by Director

If circumstances have brought you to Barcelona for just a few days and you are eager to make the most of this wonderful city, don't be so quick to feel disappointed! Instead, try to make these days as lively and fulfilling as the Catalans themselves love. Relax and go with the flow of this enchanting place!

What can you do in three days?

DAY 1: CONQUER THE MOUNTAIN

Climb Mount Tibidabo, Barcelona's highest point, on foot. At the top, you will find the Temple of the Sacred Heart / Temple del Sagrat Cor de Jesus and the oldest amusement park. The path is thorny and not easy, but you will get unforgettable impressions and stunning photos.

What do you need? Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water. Also, arm yourself with maps.me so you don't get lost. And if conquering mountains on foot doesn't appeal to you, take a bus. You will get there in comfort and without adventures! You can find more information about route options here.

Afterwards, head to Barcelona's oldest neighborhood, the Gothic Quarter. Many museums, stores and attractions are concentrated there. Sooner or later you will pass by the central structure of the quarter - the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and St. Eulalia / La Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia (aka Barcelona Cathedral). Admire the majestic church and take a stroll through the narrow streets.

Wander around, watch the streetlights come on, and then run to the Barcelona waterfront to the Barceloneta / La Barceloneta neighborhood for ice cream.

Or better yet, grab a bottle of wine and admire the sea and the hotel-sail shimmering in the setting sun, with airplanes flying over it one after another, streaking the sky with white stripes.

DAY 2: SEE THE MONTJUIC AND SINGING FOUNTAINS

Not a mountain, but a whole world! There's the National Palace with the Museum of Catalan Art, the Spanish Village / Poble Espanyol, the Olympic Stadium and the fortress, which you can reach by cable car and enjoy the views of Barcelona.

By purchasing admission to the Spanish Village / Poble Espanyol you get a discount on the Montjuïc cable car, as well as a discount on a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Joan Miro Foundation / La Fundacio Joan Miro in Montjuïc.

In the evening, go down to the Magical Singing Fountains / Fuente magica de Montjuic, where a light and music show takes place.

In the spring and summer you can see it on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 21:00 to 24:00.
During the fall and winter, the show is on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

But before you head out, double-check the hours of operation. They can change for a variety of reasons.

Tip: bring something to insulate yourself and don't buy drinks and fruit from street vendors.

DAY 3: DISCOVER ANTONIO GAUDY'S CREATIONS

The famous architect's creations are what many people come to the capital of Catalonia for. It is advisable to buy tickets to the Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell in advance. In the summer season it is better to buy tickets a week before the planned visit, as the day in a day to get there can be problematic.

f you don't manage to buy tickets online, don't get upset, and don't believe the detractors who assure you that you won't be able to see Gaudi's great creation from the inside. Feel free to go to the ticket office early in the morning, there is likely to find a ticket for an hour of the day. Before that, you will walk around the sunny city and have a cup of coffee with delicious pastries.

I recommend going to Park Güell in the evening, so after the Sagrada, take a walk on Passeig de Gracia. On the boulevard you will find La Pedrera / Casa Milà and Casa Batllo. And once again you will be amazed by the imagination of Gaudi's genius! If possible, see at least one of the houses from the inside - it is the quintessence of fantasy, art and freedom!

From Paseo de Gracia, you can walk to Parque Güell in 40-45 minutes. If time is short, take the blue L5 line at Diagonal Diagonal metro station in the direction of Vall d'Hebron to the Sagrada Familia stop.
